Garth Freeman, Senior Consultant
Dr. Garth B. Freeman is a Senior Scientist for MME. His
areas of expertise include microanalysis and general
characterization of materials.
Dr. Freeman’s interests include micro- and surface analysis as applied to a wide variety of materials systems including composites, ceramics, metals, inorganic carbon systems, polymers, contaminants, microelectronics, etc. He routinely uses analytical electron microscopy (SEM, TEM), surface analysis spectroscopy (XPS/ESCA) and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) to address analytical problems. His range of experience, however, allows him to use and interpret many other analytical techniques as appropriate to solve specific problems.
Dr. Freeman has written many successful proposals ranging from a few hundred dollars to over one million dollars, has directed or participated in the direction of numerous graduate students, and has authored or co-authored some fifty academic publications and presentations as well as numerous technical reports. When appropriate, Dr. Freeman has served as an expert witness for both plaintiffs and defendants in litigation.
Prior to his association with MME, Dr. Freeman spent ten years with the Georgia Tech Research Institute as the Head of the Materials Characterization Branch. He also served as the Manager of the Microstructure and Surface Properties section of the University of Kentucky Institute for Mining and Minerals Research where he worked with materials degradation and catalyst characterization related to coal processing. In addition, Dr. Freeman worked over ten years with a commercial materials laboratory dealing primarily with industrial and legal clients.
