Smoke Testing

Smoke Testing is a non-destructive evaluation of a sewer system, typically done on sewers with diameters less than 18 inches. The test helps to identify:

  • Potential sources of inflow and infiltration
  • Illegal connections to the sanitary sewer system
  • Buried (or hidden) assets such as manholes
  • Defective sewer service laterals and cleanouts, and
  • Defective plumbing systems
